When Voice of Young Science (VoYS) approached me to help create some images for the launch of their negative claims campaign in 2012, I was excited to be involved. This campaign was about challenging supermarkets about some negative claims (‘paraben free’, ‘no GM’, ‘free from MSG’) on their product packaging. VoYS wanted me to create some spoof packaging that highlighted the meaningless of some negative claims, with the idea that if you had a choice, which product would you choose, the one with or without the claim?

The negative claims campaign was the start of a bigger project at Sense about Science (a charity that tries to ‘help people to make sense of scientific and medical claims in public discussion’), called Ask for evidence, which was launched in 2013 and encourages people to ask for the scientific basis of claims that are made.
