BACTERIAL FLAGELLA: TWIST, STICK OR DODGE?
These diagrams were done for a review article I was involved in writing for PLoS Pathogens with the David Gally and Nicola Holden labs. The article discussed how the more general properties of bacterial flagella promote flagella-based adherence to host cell surfaces during colonisation of animals and plants, rather than any specific receptor-based interactions. It also reviewed how flagella are recognised by the immune systems of animals and plants and different bacterial adaptation strategies to evade this flagella-based detection. The full article can be found here.
